I am The National Campaign Coordinator of an animal welfare organisation named Campaign Against Cruelty to Animals(CCA-SL) opereating in the southern region of Sierra Leone specifically and the country as a whole. We have been engaged and is still engaged on sensitisation and awareness raising campaigns through radio and community outreach programsd on animal care and protection issues. We have several constraints ranging from instututional capacities, expertise/skills, amongst other; but the most pressing one is capacity building. I just learnt that Humane Society University do offer undergraduate and graduate courses in Animal care.
We would like to know whether your organisation can offer scholarships for grassroot animal welfare organisations worldwide?

We are in need of funds to complete our new building with a
surgical facility to spay/neuter our animals. I have to borrow
a hospital surgical suite at this time to do surgeries since we
have no facilities here. Our shelter is very old and falling down around us especially when it rains.
I would appreciate an application for a grant to help us with our
surgical facility and community service. We believe in education
and visit more than 5100 children during a school year. We would like the opportunity to apply.
Most Sincerely,
Carol A. Ecker, DVM

Looking at the rate at which pandemics are breaking in the world, today you find its China ,tomorrow we read in newspapers its Mexico with such a viscious disease. The issues causing huge sums of moneys on the part of the World Finacial Institutions through the World Health Oganisation. The issue we have come to understand through in some instances emerging out of not involving the grass root in the controlling of these and certainly other epidermics.Meaning these animals are with farmers or pet owners within their surrounding or communities. And when it comes to vaccinations and other disease control measures, at times if not in most cases, these animals/pet do not receive the required attention in our society.Maybe one could be that these veterinary officers are located in far places or the vet are not enough to see and attend to each and every animal complaint due to their under-staff.
It's for these reasons that we feel we can supplement the under-staffing issue. Since we stay in the community were these animals, pets in particular are not cared for properly especially in the following areas where:
(1)these pets are not caged, meaning they move any where, eat anything in streets, market dampping points, patronizing each and every house within the community in search of food
(2) since they are not caged their reprodution program is not monitored or controlled, and in such situations we have more population of pets than they can be cared for.
(3)Since they are not caged these pets try by all mean to create that relationship with everyone in the community. The situation that even makes them to be hated more due to their mobility, they look dirty, slim, diseased and ticks and fleas all over their bodies,The female as well being chased by a chain of puppies.
Due to the above stated reasons,we are so touched and observed how dangerous our lives would be if these pets can continue living in this way .The situation leading to out-breaks of uncontrollable diseases like the Swine flu,Bird flu and so on.Out of these grounds we decided to come up with an initiative ( Pet Project) to be the mediator between the pets through their masters and the veterinary to see to it that each pet belongs to each and every master by reaching the grass root down threre, since these are pets of our own communities. The project to reach everyone in coommunities we live in by trying at all cost to start sensitzing on the importance and beauty of these pet once they are well looked after and the dangers they may cause if not cared for properly. We shall make sure we get details of every pet's particulars in case we come across the diseased, malnutrished,if they need vaccinations and so forth. We will be recomending to the vet officers for further clarifications or recommendations.
Our request is that, how do we get linked to your organisation in order to achieve "prevention is better than cure" goals together. We shall be as well gratiful if you sent us more data pertaining this pet project. We look forward to hearing from your organisation or possibly help us get linked to the other rightful oganisation.
In reference to the above information we are requesting from your organisation for assistance:
(1) for materials to build structures to be used for our operation in our animal welfare life
(2) for magazines, books and medicines for the animals
(3) for computers in our safe, efficiency keeping of data and records as well as communnication purposes.I thank you in advance as i wait from your organisation soon
Yours faithfully
