I'm just wondering why people, namely democrats, are so supportive of an animal's rights- fair treatment and all. Yet, the same people support abortion- that's it's OK to end the life of a growing baby. I'm confused about this reversal of the 'food chain'. Shouldn't we just support life in general- animals AND people?

Your confusion is surprising - how could you suggest that animal welfare is only important to democrats? Animal Welfare is a bi-partisan issue and it should be important to everyone!
As for abortion, you are obviously confused on that issue as well. Democrats aren't pro-abortion, they are pro-choice and there is a big difference. I am a democrat. I would never get an abortion but don't think it's my right to tell you that you can't get one. I am pro-choice, not pro-abortion.
The bigger question is why are an unborn childs rights more important that those of a child who has been born? A child in our country has no rights. A parent can abuse, molest and neglect their child and then have the child taken away from them but they still have decision making rights with that child. Why don't the children who are born have a right to life? Why are a parents rights protected after a child is born? Let's focus on the children who are already here and make sure that they have a quality life since they are our future. People who are opposed to abortion have no idea what it's like to walk in the shoes of someone who finds themselves in a position to consider abortion as an option. It's a big judgement and humans are not supposed to be the ones doing the judging. The abortion issue isn't about real life, it's about politics and trying to win people over to whatever side is playing the card at the moment.
